The new Texas Secretary of State, Carlos Cascos paid a visit to Pearland on Wednesday (March 25), kicking off his tour of this great state.
Cascos, who was sworn in by Gov. Grag Abbott on March 7 as the state’s 110th Secretary, was the featured speaker at an intimate breakfast sponsored by the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, located at 6117 W. Broadway.
Discussing the positive growth and economy in Texas, Cascos said, “I believe that serious entrepreneurs will find a way to succeed. The government’s job is to get out of the way.”
Cascos chose Pearland as his first city stop because of its rapid growth in a very short time. “You must be doing something right,” said Sec. Cascos. “I want to see what it is!”
Chamber President Carol Artz-Bucek, Mayor Tom Reid and City Manager Clay Pearson gave presentations at breakfast, passing on information that explained the many factors behind Pearland’s recent growth.
Other attendees included Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta , Gary Bucek with the San Jac Small Business Development Center, Keith Gray with CenterPoint Energy and the Chairman of Port Freeport, John Hoss.
After breakfast, Sec. Cascos and his entourage took a walking tour of A-Better Plumbing, Sherman Roto Tank and ADDI Printing and a driving tour of the Pearland Medical Center, the Town Center, Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., Merit Medical and Dover Energy.
The Secretary of State finished his day in Pearland with a famous chicken fried steak at Pena’s Donut Heaven and Grill.
“I’ll definitely be back,” said Cascos. “You have an amazing city that you’re growing here!”
According to his biography, “Carlos Cascos was elected as Cameron County Judge in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010 and 2014. He previously served on the Texas Public Safety Commission and as a Cameron County Commissioner from 1991 through 2002.
“Born in Mexico, Secretary Cascos immigrated to the United States as a child and became a permanent resident and citizen during adolescence. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Secretary Cascos is a Certified Public Accountant.”
